Developmental Equitation Workshops
This is the most recent riding workshop series that Maria has created. It is fun and low key while simultaneously providing lots of constructive learning for equestrians and their horses. Developmental Philosophy A developmental learning strategy involves beginning with recognizing what is working well and building on strengths. Then, by utilizing a step by step approach reinforcing positive behaviors, riders learn to fill in areas of weakness. Developing confidence and competence through appropriate presentation of tasks and questions is a cornerstone of effective training. Horses and riders seem to learn best when they have an extrinsic focus. When there is a “job” to be done, there is meaning and motivation. Horses are more willing and interested in performing tasks for their riders when they perceive a purpose. “In this vein, I have created the Developmental Equitation Workshop. I am excited about this workshop because of how easily and quickly horses and riders are learning to apply balance, understanding and problem solving to their riding and training practice.” M.
